Proven Strategies for Better Self-Discipline and Personal Growth This book is well worth your time. Some of the things Patrik mentions could, without a doubt, help you transform your life. What he writes about are not just "nice ideas" or even based on his own experience or the experiences of his clients. His ideas are based on scientific studies, which he explains in a way that we all can understand.I'm tired of reading books that discuss "nice ideas" that don't really change my life, aren't you? Patrik gives you strategies that you can apply to increase your self-discipline and personal growth. That's important because self-discipline is something a lot of us have failed with in the past. Patrik shows us why this happened and give us new approaches to self-discipline that will help us succeed in the future. As we learn in the book, these approaches will work for you IF you commit to some of them and practice them.Again, this book is well worth your time and attention.Research based simple principles to achieve good habits I have read a lot of self help books, blogs and articles that focus on "how to" develop good habits that stick. While most of what I have read provides a few nuggets or good ideas that I can use for myself or share with others who I help as part of my job, none have impressed me enough to adopt the whole system. However, after reading The Self-Discipline Blueprint I feel that I have found that one system to help me to develop and sustain the habits I desire. I found Patrick's concise writing style as well as the incorporation of considerable research references very appealing. I followed the instructions and read the book first before using the workbook and I am glad I did. I know if I had tried to do the workbook along with reading the book I would have been distracted and likely would have missed too much valuable information to help me establish my blueprint for the habits I want to build on. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the Self Discpline Blueprint- yes it is simplistic but that is because Patrick did the heavy lifting of researching, synthesizing and organizing the principles into small building blocks for self discipline. I like the iterative processes and most especially the summaries at the end of each chapter. For me this book is a keeper.I feel like I have been taking in by a scam I feel like I have been taking in by a scam. This extremely light book basically lists 4 main principles including: sleep, nutrition, exercise, meditate - and lists a bunch of tips and scientific "did you knows" about each topic. That is it! There is nothing more. This book feels like some kind of Ryan Holliday style attempt to hack amazons algorithms. Although... while Ryan's books are decent... this is a sham. I literally isn't what it says on the tin. You just read a bunch of stuff you know... and a few things you didn't... about sleep, nutrition, exercise and meditation. The power of habit - this ain't.

Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 2 Free Pdf

ISBN: 1338271504
Title: Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 2 Pdf The Revenge of the Ridiculous Robo-Boogers (Captain Underpants
Author: Dav Pilkey
Published Date: 2018-12-26
Page: 176
George and Harold thought they were beyond boogers. Their new pet, Sulu the Bionic Hamster, had defeated the Bionic Booger Boy, and through the wonders of science, Melvin Sneedly had been brought back to normal (well, almost normal). It looked like their last adventure was actually going to have a happy ending... except for one thing (well, three things) -- the Ridiculous Robo-Boogers. Now George, Harold, and their buddies are on the run -- with the Robo-Boogers in hot, gooey pursuit! Will the boys get away from these gross globs, or will Sulu have to save the day again?

Oh to be a kid again It was not long ago that I treated an irrepressible 8 year old boy at the children's hospital where I worked. This kid was something else. He was smart, articulate and bubbly. We got to talking about books, and I told him about Roald Dahl's 'The Twits' (one of my long-standing favourites by that author). "Have you read Captain Underpants?" he asked me. Then he proceeded to regale me with the story of Mr Krupp and Harold and George. I was intrigued. At the follow-up appointment, my patient brought me one of his own copies of Captain Underpants, so I could see what he was going on about. I promised him the next time he came for an appointment, I would have read the whole series. His mom told me later, "You're the only doctor here who's willing to read Captain Underpants. You're doing pretty well."And here I am. I read Captain Underpants and I thoroughly loved it. It is one of the most banned books in libraries in the US, which probably goes to show you that it is extremely effective at engaging its target audience. I laughed in delight, reading the adventures of Harold and George, and remembered all the childhood hours I spent with my brother thinking up practical jokes that landed us in trouble again and again. I remembered the stink bombs, the fart spray, the whoopee cushions, and simply remembered what it was like to be a kid.I have read a few of the reviews that express concern that the series encourages defiance of authority, but I have several points to make in response. Firstly, the authority figures in the book should be challenged. Quite frankly, if kids had to attend a school where the principal punished naughty behaviour by making them clean his house and mow his lawn, I would mount a protest. That is a highly inappropriate punishment. Secondly, I seriously doubt that reading Captain Underpants is going to turn a kid into a criminal or miscreant of the justice system. If you really looked at the kinds of things that turn kids into criminals, reading books is not one of them. Thirdly, Captain Underpants was wonderfully imaginative. It turns mundane things into objects of great potential (nefarious or otherwise). I love that it encourages kids to dream and imagine, and not be confined by the dictates of our time. If not for challenging ideas, we wouldn't know that the earth revolved around the sun, or that gravity makes apples fall to the ground, or that spores from a fungus (penicillin) could be critical in treating infection.Let's let kids enjoy being kids. Heaven knows, growing up isn't much fun. And for the love of all that is cotton-y and pre-shrunk, if they love the Captain, let them read it.This book is so cool, halarious, awesome, no joke! This book is great! As a 12 year old, I'm obviously pretty old to be reading this book, but when I was younger, I read this book, and it definitely helped me love to read. I think that this book falls in the 3rd-4th grade age level. Some of the other reviews said that this book would make you hate school and make you say potty talk and stuff. Some even said it woul make your kid a "juvinile delinquet"... (not sure if I spelled that correctly). Anyway, I'm proud to say that (though I can't help the potty talk, but what type of kid can?) I have sraight A's, and I am very good at sports, though I don't know how that has much to do with anything!Anyway, I think that the main characters, George and Harold, are very clever and funny. They must be good at english and art too if they make comic books. I wish my school had signs where you can switch around the letters! Read the book and you will know what I'm talking about.Mr. Krupp is the perfect villian. He actually turns into "the greatest superhero of all time" with a 3-D Hypno Ring. Now the villian has turned into a hero, gets into lots of trouble, and George and Harold have lots of adventures.New villians show up through the series, and George and Harold fight them off. The wisecracks make this book halarious. There is also some random grown-up humor! The stories are not too complicated, and the comics are supercool! As a kid, I suggest to other kids to read this book. You will laugh. If you don't want to act like a kid, if you want to be all grown-upy, I don't know what's wrong with you, but I think that this book is totally worth reading. If you are 8 years old or 100, you will still love this book so much!!Wow, I must admit I'm proud of that last speech!

Title: Elastic Pdf Unlocking Your Brain's Ability to Embrace Change
Author: Leonard Mlodinow
Published Date: 2019-01-08

“Leonard Mlodinow will make you smarter.” —Seth MacFarlane “Ingenious . . . top-quality popular neuroscience.”   —Kirkus Reviews“Incorporating the most recent developments in psychology and neuroscience, award-winning science writer Mlodinow. . . elucidates how the human mind evolved a cognitive style he names ‘elastic thinking.’ . . . Fantastically accessible science writing. . . . Of particular interest to those wishing to understand how to cope with the pace of change in the modern world.”—Library Journal (starred review) “Timely and engrossing. Elastic is a fascinating exploration of one of the most important topics: how the human mind deals with change. If you liked Subliminal, you’ll love Elastic.” —Charles Duhigg, author of the best sellers The Power of Habit and Smarter Faster Better “It’s easy to describe the dizzying changes in our midst—from the gushers of information that wash over us to a world grown ever more interconnected. Far harder is to offer guidance on how we should respond. In this wise and persuasive book, Leonard Mlodinow calls for a change in the very way we think. Using a deft mix of science and storytelling, he shows the limits of linear thinking and the promise of ‘bottom up’ thinking that embraces ambiguity, asks the shrewd questions, and pursues novel answers to complex problems. Elastic is a book that will help you survive the whirlwind.”—Daniel H. Pink, author of WHEN and A WHOLE NEW MIND"A fascinating, useful look into how the brain works. Perfect for neophiliacs and everyone else who's dealing with a changing world.” —Seth Godin, author of Footprints on the Moon“In a world in which advancing technologies, omnipresent social media, and fiery political landscapes can make us feel helpless and paralyzed, Mlodinow shows us how our most human traits, such as novelty seeking and free-range imagination, have uniquely prepared us to thrive in an increasingly complex and ever-changing world. Most important, in the groundbreaking book he shows us how to make the best use of our most basic human talents to find true happiness and success.” —Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Professor of Neurology, Harvard University, and author of the New York Times best seller Super Brain“A book of sparkling intelligence, written with humor and grace. If you read only one book of accessible science this year, let this be the one.” —Mark Williams, author of Mindfulness, Emeritus Professor of Clinical Psychology, University of Oxford LEONARD MLODINOW’s previous books include the best sellers Subliminal (winner of the PEN/E. O. Wilson Literary Science writing award), The Drunkard’s Walk (a New York Times Notable Book), War of the Worldviews (with Deepak Chopra), and The Grand Design (with Stephen Hawking), as well as The Upright Thinkers, Feynman’s Rainbow, and Euclid’s Window. He also wrote for the television series MacGyver and Star Trek: The Next Generation.leonardmlodinow.com

The best-selling author of Subliminal and The Drunkard’s Walk teaches you how to tap into the hidden power of your brain.

In this startling and provocative look at how the human mind deals with change, Leonard Mlodinow shows us to unleash the natural abilities we all possess so we can thrive in dynamic and troubled times. Truly original minds capitalize when everyone else struggles. And most of us assume that these abilities are innate, reserved for a select few. But Mlodinow reveals that we all possess them, that we all have encoded in our brains a skill he terms elastic thinking—and he guides us in how to harness it.

Drawing on groundbreaking research, Mlodinow outlines how we can learn to let go of comfortable ideas and become accustomed to ambiguity and contradiction; how we can rise above conventional mindsets and reframe the questions we ask; and how we can improve our ability to solve problems and generate new ideas—critical skills for achieving professional and personal success in our quickly morphing world.

Some Minds Think Differently I like the fact that I learned what to call my mind. I keep seeing outside the box ... that takes an elastic mind ... see if you have one!An entertaining and thoughtful synthesis of the research on creative thinking but offers no particularly novel insights. The topics discussed in this book are ultimately well-covered elsewhere, so if you’re relatively knowledgeable in the areas of evolutionary psychology, cognitive psychology, the unconscious mind, and creative thinking, you’ll find little novelty here.On the other hand, if you’re less knowledgeable in these areas, this is a great book to learn about them all. Mlodinow expertly synthesizes the research in these areas and covers the techniques you can use to enhance your creative thinking skills. It also acts as a great refresher and an interesting tour through the mind, particularly its capacity for analytical and creative thought.Part 1 of the book addresses the concept of “neophilia,” or our inborn proclivity for novelty and change, which has deep evolutionary roots. Parts 2 and 3 largely address the differences between scripted or automatic behavior, analytical/logical thinking, and creative thinking, while part 4 discusses the techniques you can use to unlock your own creative potential. Here are some of the key insights I took away from the book:- Analytical or logical thinking is algorithm-based and largely devoid of emotion, whereas elastic (creative) thinking is driven by emotion and motivation. This is the reason why the threats of artificial intelligence are exaggerated; we can get computers to “think” analytically, based on algorithms, but we cannot get a computer to want to think or to enjoy thinking as motivation for setting its own goals and pursuing creative thought.- Elastic thinking is associated with high levels of neophilia (love of novelty) and higher levels of schizotypy (tendency toward original thinking, sensing unusual connections or feelings, and nonconformist behavior), both of which can be cultivated.- The main methods of cultivating elastic thinking include:1. Mindfulness meditation to reduce the tendency to engage in automatic scripted behavior.2. Intentionally shifting viewpoints to approach problems from different angles.3. Challenging your most fundamental assumptions.4. Allowing your unconscious mind to work on a problem by relaxing your analytical mind, through activities such as meditation, going for long walks, taking extended breaks, and sleeping on a problem.5. Postponing your creative thinking to periods when you are less mentally alert and more fatigued (which inhibits the filtering capacity of your prefrontal cortex). It’s in this area—actual creative thinking techniques—that the book seems to be lacking. While the book does a great job of summarizing research and explaining the underlying neuroscience, if you’re looking for specific techniques I would suggest any of the works by Michael Michalko. In particular, his book Thinkertoys includes dozens of techniques that can be used to generate new ideas and get you in the creative mindset. In the end, Mlodinow addresses the topic of creativity in a very analytical way, offering no new ways of approaching the topic other than renaming creative thinking “elastic thinking.” That being said, I did enjoy the book and its anecdotes and Mlodinow is always a skillful and entertaining writer. And if you don’t already know that much about the topic, this book will provide a quick primer.Good facts and anecdotes A lot of these reviews stress that there's nothing new here, but I didn't find that to be the case. His questionnaires are fun and the book is interspersed with many new interesting facts (one of which, the creative nature of schizotypy, just appeared in a study on mental illness as being an extreme version of this common personality type). It was a very informative and fun book.
