Title: Olympians Pdf Hephaistos
Author: George O'Connor
Published Date: 2019-01-29

George O'Connor is a New York Times–bestselling author and illustrator of the Olympians series as well as such graphic novels as Journey into Mohawk Country and Ball Peen Hammer. In addition to his graphic novel career, O'Connor has published several children's picture books. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Thrown from Mount Olympus as a newborn and caught by Thetis and Eurynome, who raised him on the island of Lemnos, Hephaistos had an aptitude for creating beautiful objects from a very young age. Despite his rejection from Olympus, he swallowed his anger and spent his days perfecting his craft. His exquisitely forged gifts and weapons earned him back his seat in the heavens, but he was not treated as an equal―his brothers and sisters looked down at him for his lame leg, and even his own wife, Aphrodite, was disloyal. In this installment of George O'Connor's bestselling Olympians graphic novel series, witness Hephaistos’ wrath in God of Fire as he creates a plan that’ll win him the respect he deserves.

Mythically good While many attempt to tell tales of Hephaistos/Hephaestus, few have ever done him the credit that George O'Connor does. Wonderfully penned and brilliantly illustrated (as always), this 11th installment in The Olympians is a true work of art and mythically good!Hephaistos highlights with a dose of Prometheus Enjoyed this rendering of the major Hephaistos' myth stories. The artwork was top notch and the story flow seemed better in this one. Had a bit much about Prometheus in it as well, but perhaps that is more of a preview of upcoming work perhaps.

Why the Allies Won Free Pdf

ISBN: B07KFP2P17
Title: Why the Allies Won Pdf

In this fascinating consideration of the Allied war effort, historian Richard Overy answers one of the great questions of the 20th century: What led to the unmistakable Allied victory when in the early stages of World War II, the balance of power so strongly favored the Axis?

Searching for a compelling explanation, the author explores decisive military campaigns: struggles along the Eastern front, the battles for the seas, the war in the air above, and the massive amphibious assault on Europe. He also considers key elements underlying victory, such as the quality of both political and military leadership, the pursuit of industrial strength, and the all-important determination to win.

A professor of modern history in London, Richard Overy clearly demonstrates that not one of these factors alone could make the outcome inevitable - only their compounded effect could bring victory. This multifaceted look at the war that shaped the modern world becomes accessible with Nelson Runger's thoughtful performance - and you'll realize how hard-won the Allied victory truly was.

Omits Code Breaking and Spying This is an enjoyable and illuminating book despite its shortcomings. He provides excellent statistical analysis and strategic insights. That said, it suffers from a purposeful omission. While Overy chose to highlight various technological innovations among the Allies, he also chose NOT to include a chapter on code breaking.Broken codes were pivotal in every theatre of action. A chapter on the breaking of the Japanese naval codes, who did it and how, would have greatly enhanced the run up to the Battle of Midway, where "within ten minutes the heart of the Japanese navy's strike force was destroyed by a mere ten bombs ..." The Pacific strategic balance was forever shifted thanks to those broken codes.Similarly, the brilliant path to the stealing of Germany's Ultra machines (the Polish) and subsequent hacking (the British) was epic in turning all the European campaigns in favor of the Allies. Eisenhower read Ultra daily to guide his insights. Montgomery used Ultra to win at El Alamein. Patton used Ultra constantly. Stalin, via an embedded spy at Bletchley Park, used Ultra at Stalingrad and Kursk.Certainly, the technological tweaks in tanks, aircraft, millimeter radar, etc were important. Overy managed to discuss them. But what was both strategically and tactically pivotal in the Allied victory was near real time warnings as to Nazi dispositions, thinking, and battle plans.Lastly, he fails to note the role of Soviet spies within the Roosevelt administration. The US Venona project broke Soviet codes, revealing their spy network. Harry Hopkins, Roosevelt’s closest advisor, was lauded as “the most important of all Soviet wartime agents in the US” by their top spy. Harry Dexter White spies for the Soviets as did Alger Hiss and the infamous nuclear bomb stealing Rosenberg couple. The Soviet spying was vast, vigorous, and provided strategic alerts about US military initiatives. And in one case the deadly proximity fuse we invented was stolen and sent to the Soviets. Bad omission on the author’s part.Mr. Overy has a great analytical mind This book is a jewel. Mr. Overy was able to thoroughly explain why the Allies won. The reasons are manifold; we can point out some of them.- Hitler's one man show at the helm of the German Armed Forces proved to be disastrous. His approach was amateurish and he was just not competent enough for the momentous task at hand.- The German Armed Forces fastidious insistence on weapons that were finished with a high grade of precision impeded the mass production of standardized weapons that could match the weapon's output of the Allies.- Japan's industrial production and supply system could not match America's.- The Axis powers lacked sufficient oil and its derivates.- Allied Armed Forces were able to learn from their mistakes and made the necessary adjustments to match the Axis powers' proficiency at the art of war, conversely, Germany's and Japan's Armed Forces did not improve their performance apreciably after their initial successes.- The Allies had the "moral high ground" which spurred them on to victory.- The Allies were successful at curbing the effectiveness of the German U-boats.- The Allies were able to wear down the Luftwaffe and thus achieve air superiority.- The Allies were able to keep the Germans guessing where the invasion force would land on continental Europe.- The Germans never mechanized their supply lines and their troop transport the way the Allies did. Mr. Overy is a word-Meister; he writes with clarity and elegance. It was a pleasure to read this book.

American Vampire Vol. 1 Pdf

ISBN: B0064W65N4
Title: American Vampire Vol. 1 Pdf
This volume follows two stories: one written by Snyder and one written by King. Snyder's story is set in 1920's LA, we follow Pearl, a young woman who is turned into a vampire and sets out on a path of righteous revenge against the European Vampires who tortured and abused her. This story is paired with King's story, a western about Skinner Sweet, the original American Vampire-- a stronger, faster creature than any vampire ever seen before with rattlesnake fangs and powered by the sun.

Ultra-Violent and Dark; Twilight Twinks Need Not Read American Vampire, Volume 1, comprises the first five issues of the ongoing graphic-novel series. This book features two interconnected stories—one by Scott Snyder, the other by legendary horror writer Stephen King—that provide a fresh take on the vampire mythos. King's story is set in 1880 and tells the grisly origins of notorious candy-loving outlaw, Skinner Sweet, who awakens from death after being infected by blood of the undead. Sweet is a new breed of vampire, stronger and faster than all the heretofore vamps. He's an American vampire, after all. Snyder's story, which takes place in 1920s Los Angeles, follows Pearl Jones, a struggling actress hoping to make it big in Hollywood. The naive Pearl is brutally attacked by a coven of European vampires and left for dead, that is, until Skinner Sweet revives her. Skinner then offers Pearl a chance to exact vengeance on those that killed her.Artist Rafael Albuquerque deftly captures both the 1880s Old West and 1920s Los Angeles. When it came to translating Stephen King's story, the artist gave the panels a grungier look that blends perfectly with the untamed Western motif—a roaring contrast to the effete Art Deco style of mid-1920s Hollywood that occupies the other half of the book. He relies heavily on shadows and black profiles, but also suffuses the daytime portions with strong desert sunlight. Albuquerque delivers a brilliant vision of deadly vampires that's similar to Ben Templesmith's red-smeared approach in 30 Days of Night. Horror readers will lap up the moody, macabre artwork of American Vampire. As for the narrative, you really can't say enough about the expert storytelling that we've come to expect from Stephen King and Scott Snyder. King's opening introduction gets to the bloody heart of why American Vampire rises above the undead deluge that's reduced the classic vampire monster to "anorexic teenage girls [and] boy-toys with big dewy eyes." Both writers have a strong knack for creating real and likable characters. Pearl Jones is an especially appealing protagonist, a strong young woman with dreams of fame yet she's afflicted by doubts and homesickness. Less endearing, though, is the wonderfully psychotic and impulsive Skinner Sweet with his flaxen hair and insatiable sweet tooth; the dude makes for a memorable anti-hero. Still, what I liked most about American Vampire is its innovative and refreshing spin on the vampire mythos, with the elder vampires seeking to control the younger breed (which they see as an 'abomination'). Yet, in fine American tradition, this new species of vampires refuses to become the inferiors of the European bloodline and savagely battles for control of the West.American Vampire, Volume 1, is a promising start to a series that seeks to change the contemporary perception of vampires as teenage heartthrobs. Unfortunately, because Stephen King was only contracted to the first five issues, I haven't bothered to read the subsequent volumes. Nevertheless, Volume 1 is vibrant, creepy, and wonderfully gruesome, and best of all, its rich and expansive plot works well as a stand-alone story. Because it's ultra-violent and incredibly dark, I wouldn't recommend it for younger readers. Twilight twinks would do well enough to avoid this book, for they'd be unable to fathom the idea of vampires as remorseless killing machines. Modern-day horror literature is congested with romanticized and hypersexualized representations of vampires, but it's laudable yarns like American Vampire that strive to recapture the vampire genre—it's a refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable romp. This is what a vampire story should be!
