Rules Were Made to be Broken Kendal is a College professor who has had a bit of trouble in the past, having a relationship with student who he was in love with and then another student accusing him of sexual misconduct (not true). This all puts his love life under a microscope at the college, thus all his rules, and stays clear of any encounters to avoid any misunderstandings. Years after his student love he meets an intern nurse at the hospital where his sister is and finally feels something for a woman and wants to try again.Dana is a student at the college and her boyfriend just broke up with her who was also abusing her emotionally and mentally. She can't believe that Kendal is interested in her. They spend time together and enjoy being with each other, both searching for love and acceptance. Unfortunately, Kendal doesn't know she is a student at the college and Dana doesn't know that he is under the microscope at the college and his career could be in jeopardy because of her.As the story continues and with no immediate family left Kendal needs love and support and Dana wants to give that to him. Kendal still has his rules but is willing to bend them for her as they are both falling in love with each other. After a perfect weekend in New York with each other, not having to worry about who is going to see them, they return back home agreeing to keep their relationship a secret for now. But what happens when Kendal goes to Dana's home to meet and have dinner with her family, left me wondering how will these two ever make it.An amazing read with steam, emotional and heartbreaking scenes, humour, vindictive bi*** from the past, lust/love, twists and turns, surprises, secrets and two great characters that have to navigate around a minefield to be together. I enjoyed these two and everything they go through to be together, and when Kendal finally has his revelation near the end...made my heart melt. It was a bit of a long read and some parts could have been condensed in my opinion, but it did keep my flipping the pages to see how these two would work things out and finally get their HEA.*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*A Powerful Story Another heart gripping story from Ali Parker that is a must need in your library. We met Kendall and Dana in "His Many Demands" and now their story comes to life. To say fate is a conniving b@#ch is an understatement for the hell Kendal has dealt with and the blows keep coming. Dana is a curvy beautiful woman that has just spent two years with a man tearing her self worth to pieces at every turn. When these two meet over Kendal's sisters hospital bed it'ss like a light shinning in the darkness. There is baggage galore and rules that's not meant to be broken but the heart wants what it wants. Their pasts collide in unimaginable ways and threatens to test them or year them apart. Who is willing to give something up in order to be together and will it make a difference?? I loved this story and couldn't put it down, it was a lot like watching a train wreck in slow motion and no way to help but hoping like hell they made it out unscathed. The characters were absolutely breathtaking and the plot was riveting, and the love scenes are steamy. It was great visiting characters from other books especially Damon with his humor and willingness to have Kendal's back no matter what. I loved it!!! Kudos to Ali Parker for the creativity of this story. Can't wait to see what comes up next.Love can come into life during an unexpected time. Dana is a hardworking student and nursing intern. She is usually picked to deal with the difficult patients. She feels compassion for those who are in pain or forgotten. Mandy is a young woman whose MS has moved quickly and won't be around for much longer. She is in the room when Mandy has a panic attack and calms her down. All the while, Mandy's brother, Kendal is in the room, watching this and thankful for this skill.Kendal is accounting professor at UT. He has worked hard to get this place. There are scandals in his past that still haunt him. That is why he has a lot of rules to protect himself and even his job. One of the rules is never date or sleep with a student or fellow professor at the college.What starts of as a friendship develops into more. At the time, they don't know that Dana is a student at UT and Kendal is a professor there. Their road becomes more complex and twisted.Ali Parker knocks out of the park again with this story. At different points, I was cheering for Dana and Kendal and other times I was grieving with them. They both have had triumphs and disappointments in their lives, but keep pushing forward, trying to find their place and also even love. Characters from her other books make an appearance, but they just add more to the story. It is perfect for a long weekend or just when you have a just a few minutes through out the day.I received an ARC for honest and fair review.
